Sports medicineis the branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries and damage, as well as studying the effect of movement and lack of movement on both healthy and sick people.
Typical sports ailments are epicondylitis (tennis elbow), runner's or footballer's knee caused by physical overstrain, whose treatment is the responsibility of the sports doctor.
Rare, but fatal in their consequences are the athlete's heart and very rare sudden cardiac death. This is where the comprehensive preventive care and medical examination by the sports doctor can be vital.
Other tasks of the sports doctor are the assessment of fitness for certain types of sport, e.g. diving with oxygen cylinders.
Your sports doctor provides the following services:
- Assessment of fitness in accordance with the guidelines of GTUEM (German Society for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine). The cost is borne by the sports person.
- Individual fitness examination (e.g. for marathon, football, boxing etc.)
- Issuing sports passes.
